Meet Morgan Burns, APRN, a Board-Certified Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner in private practice at AZENA Health & Longevity.
Her passion lies in genetics, peptides, hormones, functional medicine, as well as therapies known to increase longevity, optimize the brain and maximize the physical body.
A lifelong competitive athlete and former world record holder, her career path has been in health and fitness for over four decades. She gained insight into human performance through experience as a professional ultra-distance cyclist, and triathlete. Her roles included personal trainer, licensed massage therapist for over thirty years, aquatic director at the YMCA, where she initiated and taught the water arthritis program for The Arthritis Foundation, the infant swim program, lifeguard training & water safety programs for The American Red Cross, as well as coaching master’s and novice swim teams.
Morgan then went on to become an aquatic rehab specialist with Dr. Michael Fulton, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and co-developer of Nautilus equipment and other cutting edge fitness machines and protocols. At Medical Exercise Associates with Dr. Fulton, she worked with Olympians, professional football players, professional surfers, and members of the National Water Ski Team.
Her nursing foundation began in the intensive care unit where she honed her diagnostic skills before furthering her dual undergraduate degrees with a master’s degree. After a two year fellowship in endocrinology, she began working with Dr. Edwin Lee, a world renowned endocrinologist and longevity expert. A life-long learner, Morgan is currently studying advanced genetics and is a few classes away from completing a degree in functional medicine. She is a Metabolic Medicine Board Certified Diplomat of The American Academy of Anti Aging, a Certified Clinical Peptide Practitioner through The Clinical Peptide Society, and a Certified DNALIFE Genetic Practitioner.
Morgan’s varied background allows her to apply a holistic approach to personalize and optimize health and wellness. A vegetarian/vegan since the age of 16, she is well versed in optimizing nutrition for competitive athletes and those interested in plant based living.
Born with a congenital hip defect which required constant use of hip-to-heel full metal braces until two years of age, followed by knee-high splints until she was ten, she never crawled and had to develop her balance and agility through team sports. Though admittedly awkward and not one to give up…she joined the track team as a child, ran hurdles, did the long jump, swam and played basketball.
As a triathlete, Morgan suffered a spinal cord injury after a near fatal bicycle accident and spent a year relearning to walk. Nine months later, she was ultra-racing in the Yukon in another endurance marathon. Morgan attributes her ability to walk to the care she received from UF Health Shand’s Hospital under the direction of Dr. Richard Fessler, former head of the neuro surgery department, and all the amazing physicians and caregivers who helped with her recovery.
